In the middle of doing something we enjoy, it becomes a little bit of work. In that moment of feeling tired of the thing, we have a choice.\u00a0There\u2019s an opening for a thought mindset to be the driver. Think about the movie \u201cInside-Out.\u201d Who is at the control panel of your attitude?\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I love writing, sharing, praying, and studying for this blog. I love the process and the adventure of it. It isn\u2019t always easy, or comfortable\u2014 and in that space\u2026 I have a choice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I have been choosing to let it become an obligation. A Guilt-making, shame-causing, second-guessing, feet-dragging, happiness-stealing obligation. What comes to mind for you? What is the thing on the counter, or on your to-do list that stares you down and plays the guilt card?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An obligation is a requirement that one is compelled to follow to AVOID a course of action. An obligation when tied to guilt, can be emotional blackmail. \u201cI Should\u201d should be avoided like other curse words.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\nWhat is the alternative? I could choose. Choose to wait a few weeks, or choose to start. I could even choose to quit. Making a decision eliminates the \u201cspiderwebs\u201d of guilt hanging over me. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
More than this, Joy is a choice. I could choose joy\u2014 choose to joyfully be present with my family, until my capacity returns and I am once again excited to begin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I could choose to joyfully submit it back to the Lord and lay it at His feet until He calls me to pick it back up.\u00a0I could remember the JOY of writing, and hearing how I am not alone.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So here is a quick reminder that no matter what \u201cthing\u201d you feel like you have dropped\u2014 you have a choice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pick it back up, and dust that thing off. Forgive yourself, and then make a choice. It\u2019s not as big a deal as we make it, and shame is a curse word right along with should. Instead of cursing in language, it is cursing your spirit\u2014 and I think we need to see your Joy instead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
